There’s no shortage of choices when it comes to CCW holsters and far too many options to consider in terms of overall set-ups, so we’ll keep this list narrowed down primarily to Kydex IWB holsters in the cheap-to-mid-range market, as well as a few leather/Kydex hybrid models. But whether you're looking for comfort, accessibility, security, or a blend of all three, a quality holster should provide the right fit for both your weapon and your daily carry needs, based on your own personal preferences.

The list is in no particular order, so it’s not a ranking – just a list of 5 of Our Personal Favorites with a brief description of what we like about it. Please note we don’t get any commissions from these products so this is just an honest review based on comfort, safety, durability, ease of use, and concealability, among others.

We also selected different options for special criteria, such as modularity and weapon size. Be sure to check out our Facebook community page and let us know what you think of our list and let us know if you think we missed anything!

Alien Gear — Out of this world modularity

1. Alien Gear ShapeShift 4.0 IWB Holster (Best Modularity)

As the name implies, The Alien Gear ShapeShift 4.0 IWB is best-known for its versatility and modular design. The ShapeShift system allows you to customize it for your exact carrying preferences, whether you want appendix, hip, or back carry. It’s comfortable, durable, well-made and feels very natural on the body, without showing awkward protrusions. This is a great entry-level CCW holster, especially for those new to concealed carry who might want to experiment with different positions/configurations. You can also modify it for use inside a bag or in the car. The price point is excellent and it’ll last years without wearing out.

Key Features:

Comfort: Built with a breathable, moisture-wicking neoprene base, preventing discomfort during extended wear.
Modular System: ShapeShift platform allows for easy conversion to various carrying styles without needing separate holsters.
Adjustable Retention: Retention can be fine-tuned to your liking without requiring tools.

2. Tulster OATH IWB Holster (Best Optics-Ready Ambidextrous)

The OATH (Optic-ready Ambidextrous Tuckable Holster) is a deep-concealment option meant for appendix carry, but it can also be used on your side hip, as well. Tulster is known for high-quality, American-made holsters, and the OATH IWB is one of their best for concealed carry. Slim, lightweight, and made to handle the daily grind without adding bulk or discomfort. The OATH has a generous optic cut that allows room for the optic and makes for faster draws with or without a red dot. The ambidextrous design allows you to turn the holster in either direction by moving the clip and wing hardware over to the other side with two Phillips head screws. The ModWing comes with two interchangeable surfaces, giving the OATH great versatility and comfort.

Key Features:

Slim Design: Slim and unobtrusive, making it ideal for concealed carry, especially with smaller handguns.
Retention Adjustment: Offers adjustable retention, allowing for secure carry without sacrificing quick draw accessibility.
Ambidextrous Option: Can be easily swapped from left to right-handed carry.

3. JX Tactical Fat Guy Holster (Best for Bigger Guys)

Appendix carry can be extra tough when you’ve got some extra real estate going on -- if you know what we mean. The JX Tactical Fat Guy is the IWB, appendix carry solution that larger-built customers have been asking for. This holster is made to sit lower in the waistline for a more comfortable and concealable carry, and it boasts multiple attachment holes that allow you to optimize it specifically for your body shape. Also a great option for hip carry. And don’t think that it’s just for fat dudes — this is a comfortable holster for anyone, fat or not. Red buffalo plaid design is a nice touch that looks awesome.

Key Features:

Highly Optimizable: Multiple options let you optimize this holster for your own body shape and preferences
Cool Design: Color options go beyond typical standard black, gray or earth tone options.
Breathable: Cool and comfortable even in warmer weather.

4. CrossBreed MiniTuck Hybrid IWB Holster (Best for Small Weapons)

The CrossBreed MiniTuck is a fantastic hybrid option that combines a Kydex shell with a soft leather backing. This hybrid construction allows for maximum comfort while still giving your firearm the security and accessibility of Kydex shells. The cleverly designed CrossBreed MiniTuck features the same comfort and concealability as the larger SuperTuck but on a smaller scale for compact carry pistols. This holster is ideal for deep concealment of a smaller pistol or for those with a smaller body frame.

Key Features:

Hybrid Design: The leather/Kydex blend offers both comfort and durability.
Custom Fit: CrossBreed crafts each holster to fit specific firearm models, enhancing retention and security.
Ideal for Small Pistols: The compact design is ideal for smaller handguns while still providing stable carry.

We The People — Gotta love their marketing if nothing else!

5. We The People IWB (Best Budget/Design Options)

We The People has become one of the most popular holster brands on the market today, largely based on their patriotic/pro-2A marketing and design motifs which have blown-up on social media. But behind the hype is substance – they’re very affordable but good-quality, well-designed Kydex holsters. The IWB holster is a taco style shell made from .08” Kydex. The holster features a sweat guard, and the muzzle end is completely open to accommodate threaded barrels. It has great retention, with an audible click as the pistol goes into the holster. It’s also very comfortable and has smooth draw, and there are a multitude of options to fit a wide range of different gun models. The holsters do have their share of critics, however, who complain about quality issues -- so keep that in mind, too.

Key Features:

Design: Taco style shell made from .08” Kydex with a wide range of motifs, from patriotic to camo.
Cost: Very affordable with many options coming in just shy of $50.
Comfort: Easy to wear, with versatile options great for customizing to your own personal preference.
Cons: Some buyers have complained about quality and customer service issues. Still, for the price it’s a good product and for every negative review you can find just as many people who love them.
