So, are you like most people?
You know the feeling... Foggy brain. Sluggish body. Annoying cravings that come out of nowhere. Fatigue hitting earlier than expected during your training or range sessions. What if I told you that one of the simplest fixes might be the one most tactical professionals and outdoor athletes overlook? It’s water. Hydration plays a massive role in performance, endurance, mental sharpness, and recovery — yet most people in the field are under-hydrated and don’t even realize it. Whether you're on a long ruck, posted up on a hunt, or grinding through a long day at the range, hydration can make or break your performance. Water makes up about 70% of the human body — second only to oxygen in terms of importance — and it’s involved in everything from regulating body temp to joint lubrication to nutrient delivery and even cognitive function. And yet... 75% of Americans are walking around in a state of chronic dehydration. Ask yourself: how much water do you actually drink in a day? For most of us — not nearly enough. And if you're putting your body through stress — training, hiking, carrying gear, chasing targets — your need for water goes way up. A good baseline? Start with 100–120 oz of water a day. Adjust based on your size, output, and conditions. Cold climates, hot sun, altitude, long days on foot — they all demand more. And yes, it might mean more trips to the latrine. That’s a small trade-off for better performance, faster recovery, and not dragging ass halfway through your day. The fix is simple: Carry a 32oz bottle and refill it 3–4 times daily. Set phone reminders if you’re not used to drinking regularly. Drink throughout the day — not just when you're already thirsty. Track your intake for a few weeks and dial in the habit. You wouldn't go into a mission under-fueled or under-equipped — so don't overlook your most essential gear: water. Stay sharp. Stay fueled. Stay mission-ready. |
