Why do you carry a gun or keep one in your house? There are two main reasons — self-protection or hunting. In both scenarios the firearm means absolutely nothing if you can’t hit what you’re aiming at. So, what do you do? You go out to the range, maybe get a lesson, and start practicing shooting. After a few range sessions you get the hang of it. With time, you even might think you’re good. Then that day happens! You’re in the woods with that deer in front of you, or worse there is a home-intruder. You fumble with your firearm. It doesn’t feel anything like you’ve have practiced. Why? What’s different? Besides from the obvious uncontrollable and untrainable variables, let’s talk about the aspects you would be experiencing that you can replicate. Elevated heart-rate, elevated respiratory-rate, muscle tension, and sensory overload. If you’ve ever participated in a shooting competition you will experience most of these first-hand, especially the muscle tension and sensory overload. There’s a saying “You compete down, not up.” This means that you usually perform down to your lowest level of training. |
If you want to perform better, you need to replicate and practice those elements you struggle with. That’s why shooting competitions are so good to try even if your goal is not to be the next USPSA champion. Over the last five years these competitions have gotten even better with The Tactical Games and the introduction of physical fitness in shooting competitions. Why? … Because now you are adding the components of elevated heart rate, respiratory rate, and physical fatigue. Tactical Games are great but many struggle with getting to one. The travel, time away, and expense can be a barrier. FitnessandFirearmsONLINE.com brings the experience of tactical games competitions to your home range. |
